Police and Social Work Partnerships: Best Practices for Success

With Police and Social Work partnerships gaining momentum in Connecticut as a result of H.B. 6004 and the Final Report of the Police Accountability Task Force (January 2022) the dialogue around these collaborations has never been more important. However, it is not as simple as “checking a box” and putting a Social Worker in a Police cruiser. Without the right selection process, training, documentation, and supervision, these partnerships cannot reach their fullest potential, and could actually have dangerous and negative outcomes.

The team at SWLE Team has years of experience building partnerships between Police Departments and Social Work agencies across the state, and will share with participants best practices for selecting a Social Worker, training for both Officers and Social Workers to work together as a team, ethical and legally sound documentation practices, and how to develop policies and procedures that work for the agencies involved.
