PSW Internships

Now Accepting Applications for Police Social Work Internships

Each Police Social Work Intern will be required to:

  • Attend the PSW Academy – a one week (40-hour) required orientation held in Meriden, CT
  • Participate in weekly individual social work supervision and law enforcement supervision
  • Attend biweekly peer support group supervision
  • Attend all SWLE training, and other trainings that become available by supervisors
  • Attend virtual SWLE Network Bimonthly Meeting
  • Submit all required documentation – to include process recordings, time sheets, student evaluations, and monthly statistics – to Executive Project Administrator
  • Complete the required practicum hours for their educational program (BSW/MSW), including supervision time
  • Participate in the Boots on the Ground Capstone Celebration

Educational Program Requirements:
Both BSW and MSW students may apply to become a PSWI

Application Process:
Connect with your practicum coordinator for your university/college to obtain additional information regarding becoming a PSWI with the SWLE Project. A general outline of the application process is as follows:

  1. Current resume
  2. Essay (prompt will be provided to you by your practicum coordinator)
  3. Interview process with the SWLE Project then the police department

The SWLE Project will provide:

  • Training: Police Social Work Academy and ongoing/in-service training for current/former students and task supervisors 
  • Supervision: Designated task supervisors on both the social work and law enforcement sides with an open line of communication and a focus on safety of our team and our community
  • Peer support: Ongoing peer support with current and former SWLE Project interns, and an open forum to discuss experiences to perpetuate collaboration
